Two waterbombers and a bird dog from Ontario are on their way to the province to help with the province’s forest fire situation.
The Canadian Armed Forces is doubling the number of wildland firefighters being deployed to the province.
Forty are arriving today and another 40 are due to arrive tomorrow.
Premier John Hogan says crews are facing the same arduous conditions they’ve faced for the last few days, with efforts underway to extend the firebreak on the southern edge of the Kingston fire near Salmon Cove and Victoria.
“Another potential fuel break location is being evaluated ” says Hogan, “on the northern edge of the fire near Ochre Pit Cove. Ochre Pit Cove was an extreme worry, but the good news there is that it did not make it to Ochre Pit Cove last night or yet today.”
He says waterbombers are focused on the northern edge of the Kingston fire, and 50 firefighters along with local fire departments are on the ground working on trying to save homes and other structures.
