Despite more favourable weather conditions and additional resources arriving in the province, the fire situation on the island remains serious.
Public Safety Minister John Haggie is calling it a state of crisis.
The fire on the Conception Bay North Shore has now moved into Northern Bay, and Premier John Hogan says it’s too early to confirm whether any structures there are affected.
In the meantime, structure losses as a result of the Kingston Fire are significant.
The premier says while smoke and fire are preventing officials from taking a full inventory, they say approximately 100 homes are lost.
The fire break and sprinkler line are holding on the southern edge near Perry’s Cove, but the fire has expanded, mainly along the western end and spreading inland which is not populated, spreading to more than 8,000 hectares.
He says two waterbombers, a high-capacity helicopter, three bucketing helicopters, 20 ground crew, including crews from Ontario, local fire departments and forestry officials are on the ground cutting fire breaks, and a military crew is also in the area to help with suppression efforts.
