The province is requesting that the federal government extend Employment Insurance flexibilities for workers affected by the disruptions caused by the wildfires in the province.
Thousands of Newfoundlanders and Labradorians were evacuated from their homes, with many unsure that they’ll even have a home to return to.
Premier John Hogan says the same kind of EI benefit flexibility has been extended in other areas of the country that have been affected by wildfires.
He says expediting EI benefits for people in affected areas “will help greatly” in addition to the support being provided by the province, Canadian Red Cross and the Salvation Army.
