A local business owner is getting word that some of their structures in Ochre Pit Cove have been lost – but even so, they’re offering help to those displaced by the fires.
Salty Seas Cottages lost three of their cottages and the large storage shed that once stood on the corner of their property.
Two of the cottages lost had just opened for the first time on the Canada Day weekend, and the third was a 100-year-old home described as “the heart” of their business.
The owners posted to social media, indicating that they still don’t know the condition of their craft store or six other cottages.
They say once they can access the site and see if the cottages are safe and intact, they hope to offer them up as long-term rentals to displaced residents who wish to stay in their community while they rebuild.
