The owner of a heating and ventilation service company is warning that some everyday appliances may draw outside smoke into to your home.
Today is another smoky day on the northeast Avalon, and officials are urging people to take precautions to prevent smoky air from entering your home.
Mitchell Stead of Heat Pump Solutions says overhead rangehoods, bathroom exhaust fans and clothes dryers can all suck air in from outside and bring it into your home.
“If you’re running your clothes dryer or your range hood, you should try to keep that to a minimum because sucking air out of your home will cause air from outside to get sucked into your home,” says Stead.
“Even your bathroom exhaust fan – they’ll suck out a fair bit of air out of your home, which in turn will bring in outside air through your door seals, your windows, and all that kind of thing. ”
While using heat pumps and air conditioners are fine, he’s recommending that homeowners unplug any air exchangers when air quality is poor.
