The school year is fast approaching and that means officials have to find suitable accommodations for evacuees who have no where else to go.
Until now, Carbonear Academy has been serving as the emergency hub for evacuees, some of whom are staying in the school.
Premier John Hogan says deciding how people will be supported once the school opens to students is something they’re currently looking at.
He says over the next week, they’ll look at where the fires are and where people can go. He says some communities might be able to go home, which will help them plan for other evacuation centres that may be needed.
He says of the 179 people who have been notified, they’ll speak with them about “do they want to go to an evacuation centre? We’re looking at other housing options around that part of the province, including motels and living accommodations that have been used by temporary foreign workers. So that’s all part of the process.”
