Police on the west coast are investigating a grandparent scheme in which the victim surrendered a lot of money.
A woman told RNC on the weekend that she had gotten a call from somebody claiming to be her grandson, but that he had been in an accident and needed a large sum of money. She later took a second call from a person claiming to be a lawyer, requesting an even larger sum.
Last Friday night a man she did not know showed up at her residence in Irishtown-Summerside. She described him as a person of colour, about 6′ tall and wearing a flannel jacket. She handed over the money and says he then walked toward Main Street.
RNC remind the public that no law enforcement agency or public official would ever demand money over a phone call.
Anyone with information is asked to call the RNC at 709-637-4100 or Crime Stoppers.
