A west coast man accused of trying to shoot and kill a snowmobiler earlier this year has chosen trial by judge alone in Supreme Court.
In Stephenville provincial court yesterday, the lawyer for 66-year-old Wayne Hynes consented to skip a preliminary inquiry and go right to trial, with dates to be set during arraignment next month.
Hynes listened-in by phone from the Bishop’s Falls jail, where he remains in custody.
The Port au Port West man is charged with attempted murder, pointing a firearm, discharging a firearm and aggravated assault in connection with an incident near his house on February 21st.
He’s accused of shooting 26-year-old Chad Hickey as he another snowmobiler rode past Hynes’ home.
The victim reportedly continues to recover from serious head injuries.
