The RNC has arrested and charged a 41-year-old man from Humber Arm South after initially receiving a report of a crash on the Trans Canada near St. Jude’s involving a stolen vehicle.
RNC received a report of a blue Ford Bronco striking the guardrail on the Trans Canada near St. Jude’s around 5:30 Sunday morning. Police tried to pull the vehicle over, and while it did stop for a moment, the driver then pulled away and sped off.
Shortly after 9:00 last night, police once again attempted to pull the same Bronco over, this time on the TCH near George’s Lake. Yet again, the driver decided to speed away.
This morning, the same vehicle was spotted on the south shore of the Bay of Islands, where it again attempted to flee, narrowly avoiding crashing into other vehicles.
Roadblocks were set up, along with a spike belt, and the vehicle was eventually found abandoned and set on fire.
A man believed to be the driver was found by a police dog nearby and arrested. Another man and woman were arrested and released pending further investigation.
The accused is facing charges of flight from police, dangerous driving, arson, and possession of property obtained by crime.
