The City of St. John’s says it has not had to reissue any voting ballots after it was discovered that the ovals located to the right of candidates’ names may appear faint.
The city says residents who are having issues seeing the ovals should ensure they are in a well-lit area and are using the vision aids they would normally use.
If people are more comfortable voting in-person due to the issue, they can do so on election day. The city will have privacy voting booths set up that will include large-print instructions, magnifiers, and extra lighting for those who need it.
The city says even if the ballot is not marked correctly, meaning the oval has not been shaded in, but it is clear who the person intended to vote for, then officials will ensure it is counted properly.
