A man lost in a wooded area outside Happy Valley-Goose Bay has been found safe and sound despite spending a night in the elements.

RCMP were contacted around 10:30 Wednesday night and told that a missing man’s truck had been found on a woods road near Grand Lake, with no trace of the owner.

The police dog was brought in along with Happy Valley-Goose Bay Ground Search and Rescue, and the Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre was contacted to assist.

The missing man was able to send a text to his family early Thursday morning saying he was lost, and describing the area around him.

The man was prepared for an emergency and had food and water with him.

Searchers found him around 9:00 Thursday morning and he was taken to hospital for a precautionary medical assessment.
