The City of St. John’s is commending candidates in the municipal election for going with the flow amidst the change in voting day.
The City announced Monday it was changing election day from tomorrow, October 2, to next Wednesday, October 8.
That’s due to the postal strike which has disrupted the mail-in ballot process, used by about 90 per cent of voters in recent city elections.
St. John’s chief returning officer and city clerk, Theresa Walsh, said candidates were notified prior to the announcement on Monday, adding all were on board and with no concerns expressed.
“The candidates were briefed just shortly to this, and we appreciate that they are probably eager for an outcome, but I’m sure that they want the same thing, for voters to have complete accessibility and ability to cast their vote for the election and we appreciate their patience and their professionalism.”
