An accident near Arnold’s Cove this morning has left one person dead and another with life-threatening injuries.

A car and a pickup truck collided on the Trans Canada about 2km west of Jack’s Pond Park just after 9:00.

The Norman’s Cove-Long Cove Volunteer Fire Department and emergency medical services were on scene along with the RCMP.

The driver of the passenger vehicle, an 82-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other occupant was rushed to hospital with serious and potentially life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the pickup was taken to hospital as a precaution.

Traffic had been blocked off for a few hours, but the highway has since reopened.
