A musician who appealed for donations to go to the World Series and got far more than he bargained for plans to help other kids in Newfoundland and Labrador play sports.
Dave Whitty appealed to Facebook for 4,000 people to send a dollar each to get him to Toronto to see Game one between the Blue Jays and the Los Angeles Dodgers.
A short while later, his GoFundMe surpassed his goal – bringing in over $10,000.
Whitty ended up being gifted tickets and hotel accommodations and plans to donate all the funds to charities including KidSportNL.
Game one, he says, was a great experience.
“They won in a really fun fashion, which made it really, really cool,” he said. “To see this team kind of where they are right now is really, exciting.”
He told VOCM News, “I highly recommend to anyone not to go viral by any means – it’s not for the faint of heart.”
The two teams are tied 1-1 heading into game 3 tonight in Los Angeles at 9:30 NST.
