Provincial libraries are a good place to pick up books, but the services provided are expanding beyond the written word.
According to Emma Craig, a regional librarian at the A.C. Hunter Library in St. John’s, they now have a collection of instruments, which has proven very popular, especially with families who have children enrolled in school music programs.
“They might have access to their instruments during the school year, but once summer comes around, we actually find a lot of families will start using the musical instrument library to keep up with their practice when school’s off.”
She says the instruments, ranging from string instruments to percussion, can been borrowed for up to six weeks.
