A recent social media post is shining a light on the fragile economic situation that many restaurants are facing.
The post by Arbour Restaurant in Bay Bulls has been shared nearly 400 times.
It says they recently paid out the same amount of money as they made in revenue, which is “not sustainable.”
The business says they made the post to educate people of the situation they, and other restaurants, are facing and to emphasize that support is needed to keep the doors open.
Todd Perrin, a chef at Rabble in St. John’s, is one of the people who shared the post.
He says once the peak tourism season is over, the economics for such businesses change “dramatically.”
Perrin says it is important for people to understand that the fragility of the situation, and why it is important for people to spend money at these restaurants when they can afford to.
He says they understand the cost of living issues people are facing, but even spending $20 or $30 can go a long way.
