Government has committed to providing core funding to the Eating Disorder Foundation of Newfoundland and Labrador.
Premier Tony Wakeham made the announcement while speaking at their workshop at the Capital Hotel in St. John’s.
Paul Thomey, executive director of the organization, states that the funding will enhance their support services such as education.
“It’s very hard as a small organization that has to do a lot of fundraising on its own to be able to plan beyond that 12-month cycle when you don’t know how much funding you’re going to have,” he told reporters. “Larger amounts of core funding from government give us some certainty, give us the ability to have longer planning cycles, to be able to talk about doing sessions like this in two years’ time again.”
