Energy giant Cenovus is donating $2.25 million to Memorial University and the Marine Institute for programs and scholarships.
CEO Jon McKenzie made the announcement in St. John’s yesterday morning, announcing funding for a Student Design Hub, which has engineering and applied science students create prototypes and other technologies as part of their studies.
Lisa Browne, MUN’s VP of Advancement, says donations like the one made from Cenovus allow Memorial to provide programs to students beyond it’s regular scope.
“Donations are always so important because they allow us to do things other than perhaps our regular operational things that we do day-to-day. And you saw when our students spoke at the announcement today how important these sorts of initiatives are,” she said.
