The province’s largest town, which was partially evacuated on a couple of occasions during the wildfires last summer, has acknowledged the work of one of the volunteer groups in helping keep people safe.
The Conception Bay South Town Council presented Central Avalon Ground Search and Rescue with a $10,000 cheque on Friday.
Mayor Darrin Bent says the organization played a critical role during the wildfires, working closely with local fire departments and other emergency responders.
Proceeds to enable to donation came from the town’s Ribfest event in the summer.
