The transportation minister says government has seen a lot of interest so far with its job postings for overnight snowplow operators.
Two weeks ago transportation minister Barry Petten announced $3-million to hire more snowplow operators to create overnight shifts to service certain areas 24/7.
Those job postings went up immediately and Petten says there have been lots of applications.
He says they have received around 150 applications, noting they are looking for 50. Petten calls that number “encouraging,” explaining that they are now going through the vetting process to find out which applicants are suitable and qualified for the jobs.
Meanwhile, a caller to VOCM Open Line with Paddy Daly said there was no difference in the snowclearing schedule yesterday than in previous winters. This despite the PCs implementation of what they call 24/7 winter maintenance.
Dale, who preferred not to use his last name, drives between Conception Bay South and Long Harbour at all hours.
He says nothing was touched yesterday morning until the usual times.
