The city of St. John’s will table its 2026 budget today.
One of the big questions heading into today was whether property taxes will be increased.
A couple of weeks ago, Deputy Mayor Ron Ellsworth indicated that they still hadn’t decided what to do – costs have increased but they were waiting to see if revenue from higher property values would be enough to even things out.
Mayor Danny Breen says everyone has had to contend with inflation over the last year, and the city isn’t immune to that.
He says staff have been working hard on the budget over the last few months.
The city will deliver the budget in the council chambers at 3 p.m. VOCM News will be there.
