The minister of social supports and well-being is warning that government has some tough decisions ahead as it tries to address affordability while tackling a $1 billion deficit.
Finance Minister Craig Pardy delivered his fall fiscal update a few days ago, revealing that the province’s fiscal situation is worse than anticipated.
Minister Joedy Wall indicates that they had been looking at changes like higher income support levels and hiring more social workers, but he admits the situation they’re facing is challenging.
“We do see what’s going on, and with the fiscal update, we realize it’s going to be a challenge. But, with the Premier and all of our cabinet, we are committed to making a difference where we can,” he told reporters.
“It’s going to be difficult at times, and maybe tough decisions will be made, but we know that we need to help, and we need to do what’s best for the people of the province, and to be genuine in that response. As I said here today, things don’t happen overnight.”
