The federal election, baseball and other notable events in 2025 were not only on the tip of our tongue, but also the tip of our fingers according to data collected by Google.
The Toronto Blue Jays were punched into the search bar by Canadians more than any other topic when it came to news and events. Toronto’s memorable season and first trip back to the World Series in 32 years captivated even the casual or non-sports fans.
Of the top ten athletes searched, seven of them were a part of the Blue Jays roster with rookie pitcher Trey Yesavage claiming the number one spot.
The federal election came in second to the Blue Jays, with newly-elected Prime Minister Mark Carney the top-searched person in Canada for the year.
Baseball once again piqued Canadians’ curiosity with some of the most Googled questions being “how many innings are in baseball?” and “what time is the Jays game today?”
Other popular questions included “why is Canada Post on strike?'”, “how do tariffs work?” and “what does 6-7 mean?”
