Crews are working to clear snow from city streets in St. John’s, with the aim to have all streets plowed by 4:00 this afternoon.
Widening operations begin after that, but where does the city put all that snow?
Most of the more than 70 cm of snow that is blanketing the capital city region and removed from streets and sidewalks will be trucked to and dumped at Robin Hood Bay.
The city of St. John’s has an area set aside at Robin Hood Bay for snow, in addition to a number of other areas of the city where it can be collected.
Deputy City Manager of Public Works, Lynnann Winsor says where possible, snow can also be blown onto private properties.
“In areas where we can, we do blow back operations, which basically we can put the snow onto people’s property, and that helps widen people’s streets a lot faster.”
