The NDP is calling on government to do what it can to ensure that the NL Folk Festival goes ahead this summer.
The festival is marking its 50th anniversary this year, but it’s future was jeopardized after the previous board admitted to a financial “crisis of significant proportions.”
Previous board members resigned and now a group dedicated to keeping the cultural marquee event going has formed an interim board.
NDP member for St. John’s East- Quidi Vidi Sheilagh O’Leary called on the Tourism and Culture Minister Andrea Barbour to commit to making sure the Folk Festival is preserved.
Minister Barbour says the Folk Festival is important to government and they hope to see it back again.
