The Housing Corporation has issued an RFP for the construction of four new apartments to replace homes destroyed by fire nearly two years ago on Empire Avenue in St. John’s.
The homes will replace four units that were destroyed, however, the replacement dwellings will be smaller, with one bedroom each, and total living space of about 450 square feet.
The project is jointly funded by the federal and provincial governments.
The RFP will close on April 24 and the project is expected to be awarded in May.
NLHC says a nearby building that was damaged in the same fire is now being repaired, with four units to be ready for occupancy later this spring.
