U.S. President Donald Trump says he plans to make good on his threats to unleash “hell” on Iran if the country does not allow for the movement of vessels through the Strait of Hormuz by tonight.
The U.S. President told reporters yesterday that a plan is in place to destroy every bridge and power plant in the country.
He has set a deadline of 8:00 Eastern Time for an agreement to be reached with Iran to include, among other things, the opening of the Strait of Hormuz.
“We have a plan, because of the power of our military, where every bridge in Iran will be decimated by 12:00 (tonight), where every power plant in Iran will be out of business, burning, exploding, and never to be used again. I mean complete demolition by 12:00, and it will happen over a period of four hours, if we want it to. We don’t want that to happen.”
Meanwhile, Trump is being criticized for an expletive-laced tirade against the Iranian regime on Truth Social over the weekend
The president expressed his frustration, demanding Iran reopen the Strait of Hormuz using the kind of language not typically used by world leaders.
Memorial University political scientist Luke Ashworth says Trump’s weekend post has generated a great deal of attention, with some lawmakers calling it “unhinged.”
“His Truth Social posts are weird,” says Ashworth. “I think Marjorie Taylor Greene, a former ally, has decried ‘Trump’s madness.'”
Ashworth told VOCM Open Line that underlying Trump’s frustration is his apparent inability to understand the Iranian regime. He likens Trump’s attitude to comments made by Robert McNamara who essentially apologized after playing a pivotal role in promoting the disastrous U.S. involvement in Vietnam.
“And one of the things he talked about there, (was that) you can’t win unless you empathize with your enemy. You have to understand your enemy…you have to empathize with them. And he says ‘we failed to do that in Vietnam, that’s why we lost.'”
“I think the problem we are facing here is Trump and (Pete) Hegseth don’t have the ability to empathize with anybody. Certainly not with the enemy. They don’t know what they’re doing, because they’re unable to know what the other side is doing. And so this is leading to this sort of chaos that we’re seeing here and eventually to expletives.”
