The historic ten day journey of the Artemis II has ended successfully as the capsule splashed down in the Pacific Ocean off San Diego Friday evening.
The capsule hurdled through the Earth’s atmosphere at speeds in excess of 24,000 miles an hour before deploying a series of parachutes that slowed it down for a picture perfect landing on the surface of the ocean.
The crew, including Canadian astronaut Jeremy Hansen, journeyed farther from Earth than any other human, after navigating around the far – or dark – side of the moon.
A recovery team was on site to retrieve the crew members – Christina Koch, Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover and Hansen from the capsule. They are all reported to be in “excellent shape.”
