The day has arrived for construction to begin on a roundabout on the route to St. John’s International Airport.
It will involve complete reconfiguration of the high-collision intersection on Portugal Cove Road at Airport Heights Drive and Major’s Path.
Work will continue until the end of the year.
The city says it will do all it can to reduce delays and keep traffic flowing. That includes keeping at least one lane of traffic open in each direction at all times on Portugal Cove Road.
As for Major’s Path and Airport Heights Drive, one lane will remain open in each direction during peak traffic hours – 7-9 a.m. and 4-6 p.m. Outside those hours, traffic may be reduced to one shared lane for both directions.
St. John’s International Airport is encouraging travellers to give themselves plenty of time when heading to YYT.
