A member of the Canadian Union of Postal Workers says inadequate staffing models at the main Canada Post sorting station in St. John’s is leading to a significant backlog in mail.
Local union past-president Craig Dyer was responding to questions on VOCM Open Line about an apparent delay in the mail service. Dyer calls the main sorting station “a warehouse for mail.”
“We don’t have enough staff to process the mail, so it sits there for days, weeks, and sometimes a month. And as a worker, as a person who delivers the mail, it’s very frustrating when you know that the person on your route’s waiting for a doctor’s appointment, waiting for a parcel, waiting for a cheque, and you know it’s in the building, but there’s nothing you can do about it.”
