We’re still months away from the hot and dry summer months, however some towns have already put a ban on open fires.
The local fire department has issued a fire ban for Heart’s Content and New Perlican effective immediately.
The Heart’s Content Volunteer Fire Department says the decision was made due to a few close calls involving brush fires over the last few days.
All open fires, including recreational fire pits, are prohibited at this time. Propane fire pits are permitted.
Those looking to burn garbage or brush must have a permit from the Department of Forestry and must follow all rules and regulations.
Bay Roberts Fire Rescue is also warning the public to be careful after crews responded to a brush fire in Port de Grave yesterday.
An advisory was issued by RCMP yesterday afternoon asking the public to stay away from the area while crews battled the blaze.
Firefighters from the Spaniard’s Bay/Tilton Volunteer Fire Department assisted in the effort.
The department warns that even though the snow has just melted, the ground is still dry and things can get out of hand rather quickly.
