The recipients of the 2024 and 2025 ArtsSmarts Scholarship program have been named by ArtsNL and Equinor.
The Equinor ArtsSmarts Scholarship winner for 2024 is Daniel Burton of Petty Harbour, who is an active member of WritersNL, and has already written four novels and a collection of short stories. The Holy Heart graduate has an IB certificate in English Literature and is a University of New Brunswick Currie Scholar.
The 2025 scholarship recipient is actor and singer Lauren Patten of St. John’s. She is currently pursuing her BFA in Theatre and Performance Creation at York University. Her previous credits include Legally Blonde, I Forgive You and When the Angel of Death Says How Are You.

Meanwhile, ArtsNL’s One-Time 45th Anniversary Scholarship has been awarded to singer-songwriter Summer Bennett of Paradise. The Mount Pearl Senior High graduate has already released her debut EP, One Thousand Fahrenheit, produced by Grammy Award winner Greg Wells and is now developing her first full-length album with him.
