A fire which broke out Thursday evening at the Wild Cove landfill in Corner Brook is still active but contained.

Crews are on site dousing hot spots.

Deputy fire chief Sheldon Hillier says the fire is large, but the chance of it spreading to the nearby forest is low due to the weather conditions.

City workers are advising people who live in the area to limit their time outside and close their windows.

The landfill will remain closed for the weekend with an update expected Sunday night.
