RCMP are reminding people to be cautious when driving in construction zones as we’re now heavy into roadwork season.
Police will be patrolling construction zones and watching for those who ignore the speed limits. Those areas often contain hazards such as heavy equipment, uneven road surfaces, narrowed lanes and modified traffic patterns that beg for reduced speeds.
In many construction areas, roadway workers are separated from passing traffic by little more than temporary traffic control devices such as pylons.
Drivers often see no need to reduce speed in off-times when no work is happening, but RCMP say even when workers are not visible, vehicles have to follow the posted signage and speed limits to ensure the safety of everyone using the roadway.
