It is National Blood Donor Week, and Canadian Blood Services is looking for donors to add to its roster of over 400-thousand to sustain Canada’s blood and plasma supply.
One of those who was on the receiving end of the donations is Jill Snow, who needed life-saving transfusions after a bad cold turned to pneumonia some 20 years ago, and an infection turned septic.
Snow plans to give back with a donation event this Saturday, in hopes of helping people like her get the blood they need to survive.
“Coming out of the coma, I took several months for recovery, and I often think about how we always say that blood donors save lives, but they also give the opportunity of life because I was only 28 years old at the time when this happened,” she told VOCM News.
“I’ve been able to do so much since that time. I was able to get married, have children, and experience all the different joys of life.”
The event will take place at the St. John’s Donation Centre on Wicklow Street on Saturday.
