The number of homes sold in Newfoundland and Labrador last month was down over last year according to the latest figures released from the Canadian Real Estate Association.
There were 410 homes sold in the province last month – a 20 per cent drop compared to May 2025.
The slow down in real estate activity has been the trend so far this year with the number of units sold in the first five months of 2026 down 13.2 per cent year-over-year. In the metro area, the association recorded a 26.3 per cent drop in the number of sold signs going up.
While sales were down, prices were up. The average price of a home sold in the province was $374,876 – an increase of 11 per cent compared to the same month last year.
By the end of the month, the number of active listings on the market hit a low that hasn’t been seen in more than 20 years with about 2,400 total units on the market.
The total number of active listings is about 40 per cent below the 10-year-average.
