Provincial officials are monitoring the situation after multiple reports of a black bear seen in Eastport and nearby St. Chad’s.

Conservation officers are asking residents to take the appropriate steps to avoid an encounter with black bears by keeping garbage stored and disposed of properly and make sure BBQs are clean.

Pet owners should keep their animals indoors, and closely supervised when they’re out.

Residents are also asked to stay away from bear traps set up in the area.
