The NDP say it hopes that “government does the right thing” and investigates what happened to lead the Innu Nation to cancel a major exhibit planned for National Indigenous Peoples Day.
The Innu Nation says the exhibit was cancelled after leaders were informed that its depiction of how the Innu have adapted to the land over the centuries did not align with the provincial government’s view.
The minister responsible, Lela Evans, says government is committed to working with the Innu Nation and it was not their intention to offend.
The NDP’s Sheilagh O’Leary says government needs to take “meaningful steps to ensure it never happens again.”
