The Gathering Place has officially opened a new community garden that they believe will give the people who go there a sense of hope.
The space, which is named The Hopeful Garden, is located at the corner of Barnes Road and Barnes Place in St. John’s.
The garden is a place where people can build horticultural skills, contribute to a shared space, connect with other people, or just sit quietly.

Executive director Colin MacNeil says hope is what The Gathering Place is all about.
He says they are a place for people to go and get the basic things they need in life, and the garden is another step in that. He says it is a place where people can come to participate in programming, talk to others, and ultimately “take advantage of the beautiful things in life”.
