Volunteers are being invited to turn out this weekend to help clean up a popular walking trail that was heavily damaged in the fires last summer on the Conception Bay North Shore.
Charis Cotter of the Western Bay Lighthouse Trails Committee says about half of the boardwalk was lost, and they’re inviting people to help dismantle damaged portions and take the debris away.
“We’re going to kind of dismantle the old boardwalk that’s been damaged, and drag all the wood to the parking lot where we’re going to have a dumpster…to clean up the area so we can rebuild the boardwalk.”
She says donations from the Community Foundation and the Canadian Red Cross are going to help them rebuild some of the boardwalk, while they will leave coastal areas of the trail as a gravel walkway.
Volunteers are being invited to gather in the trailway parking lot at 9:00 Sunday morning.
