SquidFest kicks off today in Holyrood.
The event, now in its 37th year, offers numerous events over the course of five days.
Due to the poor weather, the kickoff event at Holy Cross Swim Park had to be postponed until tomorrow, but the Afternoon Tea with the Holyrood Heritage Society is still a go for 2 p.m.
Director of recreation and community events Kyle Hawco remembers attending SquidFest when he was younger and says there are so many long-standing events that makes him feel like a kid again when attending.
He says seeing the civic pride on the faces of children who attend events today is “what it’s all about.”
He says the town prides itself on creating a family-oriented festival, and it is great to see families come out and join in the fun.
