Work is set to begin this week on a busy thoroughfare in the capital city.
The City of St. John’s announced it plans to make road improvements in and around Kelsey Drive and Thorburn Road following several collisions over the years.
Council plans to add traffic and pedestrian crossing signals near the entrances to Home Depot, Walmart, Canadian Tire, and Swiss Chalet in hopes of improving safety. It will also add a median near Boston Pizza and TD Bank.
Traffic lights at the intersection of Thorburn Road and Goldstone Street are part of the project, which will eventually see work near the Team Gushue Highway and Goldstone intersection.
Officials say there may be traffic interruptions while the work is being completed, which is expected to be finished by the end of the year.
