The RNC has laid charges against a 17-year-old boy who they allege had been using AI to alter images to create sexually-explicit material and sharing it online.

Police received several complaints back in January from teenage girls who indicated that their images had been digitally altered in sexually explicit ways and posted on social media.

RNC traced the images to a 17-year-old boy in the Goulds, and on July 29th, the teenager was charged with 19 counts each of making, possessing, and distributing child sexual abuse and exploitation material.

The use of AI to alter photos to create sexual content without consent, and sharing those images is a crime.

Parents are being asked to speak with young people in their lives about the responsible use of technology, consent and the consequences of online behavior.

In total, the current list of charges is as follows:

• 19 counts of making child sexual abuse and exploitation material
• 19 counts of possession of child sexual abuse and exploitation material
• 19 counts of distribution of child sexual abuse and exploitation material
• One count of accessing child sexual abuse and exploitation material
