Expect the skies to dim somewhat this afternoon, as the moon moves between the Earth and Sun, partially obscuring the sun’s rays.

The partial eclipse will begin around 2:28 this afternoon over the island, reaching full effect at 3:34.

By 4:37 it will be over.

Never stare at the sun without appropriate eye protection. To view the eclipse you must were eclipse glasses purchased through a reputable dealer.

In the meantime, it’s fine to walk about and the enjoy the day as you normally would.

While Newfoundland and Labrador will experience four partial solar eclipses between now and 2033, the next total solar eclipse won’t pass over the island until May 1, 2079.

St. John’s won’t see a total eclipse until July 17, 2205.
