The newly-elected Grand Chief of the Innu Nation shares the initial optimism surrounding the new Churchill Falls deal, but says a deeper dive into the agreement is yet to be had.
Jodie Ashini was elected to the position over the weekend, and immediately flew to St. John’s to take in the announcement on the St. John’s waterfront.
Ashini says the agreement “sounds really promising,” noting the acknowledgement that the agreement is within their land claim area.
That said, Ashini has not seen the official document yet – so she still needs to do a deep dive into it, before bringing it to people in the community to get their feedback.
