The Independent MHA for Bay of Islands fears that an increasingly polarized political landscape could create difficulties for the newly-announced Churchill Falls agreement.
Premier Tony Wakeham made it clear in his comments this week that the federal government’s role was essential in bringing forward a collaborative agreement on the development.
Eddie Joyce told VOCM Open Line with Brian Callahan that his fear is that the Opposition Conservatives will use that approach to foster division.
“Once the Prime Minister of Canada stepped in and said this is a national project and put in $10 billion dollars, you’re going to start hearing the federal (Conservatives), right or wrong, start saying ‘well how about between Alberta and British Columbia?'” He says that could lead to discussion that Carney is giving things away. “You can see it starting right away,” says Joyce.
