The premier says work is already underway in establishing an additional power line to feed Labrador West.
Mining development and investment in the region has been hampered by the need for more power.
Premier Tony Wakeham says under the new Churchill Falls agreement announced this week, the federal government is stepping up with $1.3 billion to help build the needed power structure.
“That’s almost half of the cost of building the transmission line,” says Wakeham. “They’re working on the studies for that right now. We have work to do between now and December to get all the definitive agreements done, but once they’re done, we’ll be ready to start moving.”
