The numbers in Nepal keep rising. The latest has more than 600 people dead and about three-thousand missing.

No Canadians are among the 121 foreign nationals rescued, while 32 Canadian citizens or permanent residents are reported missing.

A Nepalese man living in Conception Bay South trembled when he heard of the devastation caused by massive flooding.

Amrid Lamsal says he initially couldn’t get hold of his loved ones but managed to speak with them after a nerve-wracking delay.

He says many of the Nepalese people he’s spoken with are homeless and sleeping in the streets following the devastating weather events of the past few days.

He says they’re starting a fundraiser for one person from Nepal living in St. John’s who had his family home destroyed and is missing five family members.

Lamsal says of the 10 people in the person’s immediate family, they have been unable to contact five of them. He says they’re desperately looking for someone who may have witnessed them being swept away by the water.
