After spending millions of dollars on it, the provincial government has given up on the idea of having a large indoor dome on Kenmount Crossing. Now, it wants to sell.

The previous Liberal government bought the 100,000 sq. ft. structure, which is about the size of two football fields, but it has never been unpacked. It was part of the plan to build a new hospital at Kenmount Crossing, but the PC government scrapped that project, and is now getting rid of the dome.

Barry Petten, the minister responsible for infrastructure, said early this year that government had spent about $5-million on the structure.

The air-supported membrane structure is designed for high occupancy recreational and community use, but is a fixed facility and would not be suitable for use as a mobile facility.

Minister Petten says there are a number of potential purchasers, so it is being put up on tender.
