The provincial government has appointed a new director for the province’s Serious Incident Response Team.
SIRT-NL is a civilian-led agency that investigates serious incidents involving police officers in the province.
Senior Crown attorney Richard Deveau replaces interim director Stephen Ring who took over from Michael King after his appointment as a provincial court judge in late 2024.
Deveau, who is originally from New Brunswick, moved to this province in 2010 to complete his articles with the NL Legal Aid Commission.
He worked with the Nova Scotia Public Prosecution Service before returning to Legal Aid in St. John’s in 2015.
Deveau has been appointed for a five-year term.
